$10 Million To Foreign Exchange Student Program
The Canadian government is announcing that it will provide a $10 million scholarship program over a five year period. It will assist post-secondary students and professionals from Southeast Asia to access world-class education in Canada.
Canada’s minister of foreign affairs, Chrystia Freeland announced the foreign exchange student scholarship program at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) regional forum in Manila, the Philippines earlier this month.
According to the press release, “the foreign exchange student scholarships and educational exchanges for development initiative will provide individuals from ASEAN member states, especially women, the opportunity to apply for short-term studies or research in Canada.”
There are ten ASEAN states that Canada will be working closely with: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Further, “Scholarships will be awarded in fields that contribute to ASEAN’s efforts to narrow the development gap and reduce poverty in Southeast Asia, such as climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy, public financial management, reproductive health and rights of women.”
